When you are heading out on the road this summer, make sure that you and your family are fully prepared for anything. Find out more about what you should plan on bringing with you for your road trip.
Road trips are a great way for you and your family to travel during summer. You get to see different towns and cities, and you do not have to deal with long lines and delays at airports. Before you hit the road, take time to ensure that you and your family have everything you need to make your trip a safe and fun one. In addition to healthy snacks and drinks, you will also need the following checklist items:
First Aid Items
You never know what could happen on the road as far as illnesses and injuries, so it is best to be prepared. Pack the following first aid items in a kit, and keep it inside the car so you can get to it easily if needed:
- Band-aids in different sizes and gauze for covering cuts and other wounds
- Antibiotic ointment to put on cuts and scrapes
- Antiseptic solution
- Cold packs to ease swelling and soreness
- Over-the-counter pain relievers
- Thermometer to check for fevers
- Sickness bags in case anyone in your family gets carsick
Outdoor Items
Even if you are not going to the beach or camping, it is still important to have the following outdoor items with you on the road:
- Sunscreen with SPF 50 or higher to protect you and your family from the sun’s rays
- Mosquito repellent to put on if you stop and spend any time outdoors in the evening during your road trip
- Hats with brims and sunglasses for extra protection in the sun
Baby Items
Going on a road trip with younger kids can be a challenge, but making sure you have what you need can make it less stressful. If you are traveling with an infant or toddler, make sure that you have all of the following baby items packed in a bag that is easy for you to reach:
- Diapers
- Baby rash ointment
- Baby wipes
- Extra set of clothes
Entertainment Items
Keeping kids entertained in the car can make summer road trips go more smoothly. To ensure that your kids have plenty of things to keep them occupied, consider having the following items in your car. Make sure that your kids can reach these entertainment items during the trip so that you do not have to keep stopping:
- Activity books, coloring books, crayons, colored pencils and pens
- Games that are fun and easy to play in the car, such as Mad Libs or magnetic games
